| Export/Import Performance Data |
It is possible to export one or more targets, and all their associated measurements, into a spread sheet format. This is particularly useful for remote measurements of performance targets (for example litter and detritus counts) where web access is not readily available. Completed spread sheets can then be re-imported into the system using the Import Data function in the Measurement Entry window.
Exported data can also be easily manipulated into reports in Excel and/or Word (for example in Excel charts) thereby further extending the functionality of Escendency's reporting system.
Performance targets can be exported both from the Export Target Data module but also from the Peformance Indicator List report by clicking on the
icon in the performance target lists.
Export Target Data Module: List of targets
Clicking on the Export Target Data module produces a list of targets that can be selected to export (figure 1).
The records will be split up into pages. Click a page number link to view another page of records. The number of the current page is highlighted in bold red text.
If there are a lot of pages, numbers will appear in a list that can be scrolled.
The number of targets displayed can be selected from the drop-down list at the top of the page.
Checking the "Show Deleted, Suspended, Pending" checkbox will cause the list of records to include these records along with those currently open. Leaving the checkbox blank will cause the list only to show records currently open.

Selecting the export icon (
) for a given target enables a choice of data format to be selected for saving to the client PC (or other location on the organisation's network).

After selecting the format for the exported report, there will be a prompt for the file's save location:

The performance target and all its associated data will now be saved as an Excel spreadsheet. From here it could be charted with other PI spreadsheets downloaded using the export module.

Importing Performance Data (from Measurement Entry window)
Spreadsheets exported using the export functions above can be re-imported to the system during measurement entry.
Users with PI Measurement tasks in their Task window have the option of using a measurement import function located in the measurement entry window (the measurement entry window is accessed when users click on a PI Measurement task - see Measurement Entry help and Control Panel: Tasks help for more information on entering measurements and responding to tasks). This circumvents the need to enter measurements in the Measurement Entry field.
In the Import Data tab of the measurement entry window (figure 5.1), click the 'Browse' button to locate the file (figure 5.2) and then upload and validate the file format (figure 5.3):

Figure 5.3: Uploading and validating imported performance target data. In this example the first value for 01 May 2006 is not validated because a value already exists in the database for that month
Selecting 'Confirming & Import' will update the target database with the measurment inputter's user id so they do not have to manually enter in the measurements. This is clearly a useful function if measurements have been made out in the field over the performance target's duration, especially if there are a large number of measurements.
